Fire on Blue Carrier 2 North of Mykonos: All 29 Onboard Evacuated Safely

A fire broke out on the morning of Friday, September 25, on the cargo-passenger ship Blue Carrier 2 while it was sailing in the sea area north of Mykonos and east of Andros. A total of 29 people were onboard, including 28 crew members and one truck driver. For their safety, an evacuation operation was launched, and all were transported in good health to Tinos by Coast Guard vessels.

According to the shipowning company Attica Group, the fire broke out at 08:57 while the ship was performing its scheduled itinerary. The Blue Carrier 2 had departed from Piraeus on Thursday evening, called at the port of Syros around 06:30 on Friday morning, and was continuing its journey to Vathy, Samos. The ship is carrying 166 trucks and 29 passenger cars, with reports indicating that the fire started from a truck on the open deck and spread rapidly.

Due to the scale of the fire, the vessel emitted a distress signal. To address the incident, Coast Guard forces, firefighting vessels from Syros, Mykonos, Lavrio, and Piraeus, as well as nearby vessels including the MPP Cleo and Delos Express, were mobilized. Winds of up to 4 Beaufort were blowing in the area, while explosions were reportedly heard from the ship's garages. So far, no official announcement has been issued regarding the exact cause of the fire.
