The deceased had been honored by the Municipality of Naxos for his contribution to traditional culture and teaching the instrument to younger generations.

Michalis G. Alimpertis, originating from Komiaki, Naxos, who was a traditional tsambouna player and instrument maker, has passed away. He lived in recent years in the rural area of Agia, where he died.

Born in Komiaki, Alimpertis learned to play and craft the traditional instrument. After working in Athens, he returned to Naxos upon retirement, where he engaged in farming and taught the construction and technique of the tsambouna to younger musicians, while participating in local cultural events.

In September 2026, the Municipality of Naxos honored him for his contribution to folk culture. His last public appearance was on October 24 at a municipal event commemorating the liberation of Naxos, where he played the traditional song 'Three Years in Cairo'.
