A pilot initiative targeting catering businesses in Kamari collected 47.5 tons of recyclables between June and October, while Pyrgos-Megalochori Primary School led local school recycling efforts.

More than 50 tons of recyclable materials were collected in Santorini through circular economy initiatives implemented on the island, as presented during an information event hosted by the Municipality of Thira at the Bellonio Cultural Center.

Under the pilot implementation of the Thira Circular Business program in Kamari, a total of 47.5 tons of materials—including PET plastic bottles, glass, cardboard, and aluminum—were collected between June and October via source separation and door-to-door collection from catering businesses.

At the same time, through the Thira Circular Schools program in which all schools on the island participate, Pyrgos-Megalochori Primary School received an award for the 2025-2026 school year for collecting the largest quantity of recyclable materials.

The Municipality of Thira and the DAFNI Network of Sustainable Greek Islands confirmed that these collaborative initiatives will continue under the European project LIFE-IP CEI-Greece.
