The work is being carried out by the Municipal Water Service with assistance from the Sanitation Service and the Port Fund.

More than 300 drain grates have been cleared in Tinos as part of the municipal maintenance program ahead of the winter season. Work has been ongoing across the island since mid-September.

The Municipal Water Service of Tinos is responsible for executing the operations, supported where necessary by the Sanitation Service and the Port Fund. Alongside removing debris, crew members inspect the grates and perform on-site repairs or replacements wherever damage is identified.

According to the Deputy Mayor of Water Services, Ioannis Zalonis, a large portion of the removed materials consists of waste, primarily plastic bottles. Municipal authorities appeal to residents not to leave waste and materials near storm drains and streams.
