Long before becoming one of the most prominent political figures of modern Greece, Eleftherios Venizelos lived and studied on Syros. His connection with Hermoupolis began during his childhood and continued with his enrollment at the High School of Syros.
This specific historical period and the presence of the future political leader in the capital of the Cyclades is commemorated today in the city through two distinct memorial plaques, which refer to two different periods of his stay.
