HNMS upgraded its weather bulletin while the Andros Port Authority issued safety instructions for vessel owners.

The Cyclades, particularly the western and northern islands, are under an orange alert after the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) upgraded its severe weather bulletin to dangerous weather events. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and potential localized hail are expected in the region from late Tuesday afternoon through the early hours of Wednesday.

At the same time, gale-force gale-force north-northeasterly winds are expected in the Aegean Sea starting Tuesday night, reaching local gusts of 8 to 9 and temporarily up to 10 Beaufort. The strong winds will initially affect the northern Aegean and gradually move to the central Aegean, lasting until late Wednesday night.

In light of the adverse weather conditions, the Andros Port Authority issued an urgent notice calling for increased vigilance. Boat owners and captains are urged to take all necessary measures to secure their vessels, maintain proper moorings, and monitor laid-up or hazardous craft to prevent drifting.

Furthermore, port authorities strongly advise small craft, professional and amateur fishermen, and water sports clubs to refrain from activities while the severe weather persists. The authority also reminded the public that under port regulations, the use of sea recreational craft is strictly prohibited during adverse weather conditions and reduced visibility.
