Syros: Anniversary Events Commemorating Liberation from German Occupation Troops
The Municipality of Syros-Ermoupolis will mark the October 11 liberation anniversary with a doxology at Agios Georgios and a memorial service at the Hartoulari estate.
With a series of commemorative events on Sunday, October 11, 2026, the Municipality of Syros-Ermoupolis honors the island's liberation from German occupation troops. This specific date was established in 1997 as a day of honor for the heroes of Syros.
The program begins at 10:00 AM with an official doxology at the Holy Church of Agios Georgios, led by the Metropolitan of Syros, Mr. Dorotheos II. Additionally, general flag decoration and illumination of public buildings across the island are scheduled.
Following the doxology, the Mayor of Syros-Ermoupolis, Alexandros Athanasiou, will deliver the keynote address of the day. A memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony will follow at the Monument of Occupation Victims at the Hartoulari estate, a site officially designated as a place for occupation victims.
