Anniversary of Greece's National Basketball Team EuroBasket Triumph in Belgrade 2005

Years have passed since the historic success of September 25, 2005, when the Greek national basketball team defeated Germany 78-62 in the Belgrade final. With this victory, the Greek team won the EuroBasket gold medal for the second time in its history, following its first success in 1987.

Panagiotis Giannakis held a leading role from the head coach position, having also won the trophy as a player in 1987. The 2005 team relied on the collective effort of players such as Papaloukas, Diamantidis, Zisis, Spanoulis, Kakiouzis, Fotsis, Papadopoulos, Ntikoudis, and Bourousis, who stood out for their defensive play and teamwork.

The path to the title was challenging, as Greece suffered a 68-56 defeat against Slovenia during the group stage. Subsequently, the national team achieved crucial victories in the knockout stage, first eliminating Israel 67-61 and then Russia.
