World Tourism Day: Messages on Sustainability and Workforce in Paros and Santorini
On the occasion of World Tourism Day on September 27, the Mayor of Paros and the President of the Santorini Hoteliers Association shared their views on the challenges and future of the industry.
The Mayor of Paros, Konstantinos Bizas, emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism development for the island on the occasion of World Tourism Day on September 27. Mr. Bizas pointed out that the destination's success should not be evaluated solely by numerical metrics, but requires planning that respects the island's capacity, environmental protection, and residents' quality of life.
Concurrently, the President of the Santorini Hoteliers Association, Antonis Pagonis, focused on the industry's professionals and employees, describing tourism as the main pillar of employment and income supporting Santorini's local society. Mr. Pagonis highlighted the need for a serious, evidence-based, and scientific discussion regarding the future of tourism on the island, aiming for continuous improvement and evolution.
