Athens International Airport Partners with Calgary Airport for Future Direct Connection

Athens International Airport and Calgary Airports, the operator of Calgary International Airport in Canada, have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement establishes a sistership relationship between the two airports, aiming to increase passenger and cargo flows and create the conditions for establishing regular direct flights between the two cities in the future.

Under the agreement, the two parties will explore joint actions, exchange expertise, and promote both destinations to strengthen tourism and business relations. The operators clarify that the signing of the memorandum does not constitute an announcement of a new route, but rather creates the institutional framework for market development.

The initiative connects two airports with significant passenger traffic. In 2025, Athens International Airport handled 34 million passengers with connections to 164 destinations, while Calgary Airport welcomed 19.4 million passengers, offering direct flights to 108 destinations.
