Severe Storm Hits Syros with Record Rainfall in Ermoupoli
Heavy weather hit Syros on Sunday, September 27, causing sewer overflows, power cuts, and telecommunication issues.
A severe storm caused significant problems on the island of Syros on Sunday, September 27. Ermoupoli was at the center of the severe weather, where heavy rainfall led to manhole overflows. High water pressure displaced manhole covers, creating hazards for drivers and pedestrians.
According to data from Syroswx and the University's meteorological station in Ermoupoli, 83 mm of rain was recorded in the island's capital, marking the heaviest rainfall in recent years for the area. Meanwhile, 31 mm of rain was recorded in Chroussa.
The severe weather also affected other parts of Syros, leading to telecommunication issues as well as repeated, hours-long power outages.
